How to be comfortable on the course and still look your best

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

When I’m out on the golf course I want to have functional clothing but I don’t want to abandon my style while I’m out there. I of course don’t want to be too stylish and then not be able to hit the ball but I also don’t want to look like I’m dressed in men’s clothes.

I like some of the European labels like Bogner and Golfino because they know how to combine functionality with fashion. Golfino is a sporty style with elegance and is great to wear in any weather condition on the golf course.

Another great one is a North American designer named Leon Levin. In the 1960’s Leon Levin developed the skort as we know it today. I love playing in a skort because it gives me the freedom of a pair of shorts yet the elegance of a skirt.

Golf designers like Izod and Sport Haley are concerned with what works but they also are very stylish.

Sexy Golfers

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

How many times have you heard that golf is for boring old men? The demographic has shifted and golf is not just for your grandfather anymore.

You may be surprised to find just who’s hitting the links. Many of the tabloid and celebrity magazines have annual issues for the “sexiest man alive” or the “25 most eligible bachelors.”

In honor of all the hunks and hot men who golf I’ve compiled our own “On the Lip” tribute to the “Marvelous Men who Golf.” There are numerous young, good-looking, successful and talented men who golf. Topping our list is Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, who grew up golfing in San Francisco and continues to hit the links when he’s not playing football or spending time with his Victoria Secrets super model girlfriend.

Mark Wahlberg, with a 7 handicap, is one of the few celebrities at Wilshire Country Club. Actor Matthew McConaghey, dubbed this year’s No. 1 “Sexy and Single-Hottest Bachelor” by People Magazine, carries an 8 handicap. Mr. Sexy himself, Justin Timberlake is an avid golfer who plays in the Pebble Beach Pro Am along with Andy Garcia, a 9 handicap who won the AT&T Pebble Beach with Paul Stankowski in 1997.

Our favorite Dolphin, Jason Taylor, hosts his own celebrity golf tournament in Miami. Although he may not be the youngest, Kevin Costner is definitely one of the most stylish on the course and, with a 10.8 handicap, proves he’s more than good looks. With a 25 handicap this player has other priorities, but George Clooney manages to slip a bit of golf into his schedule now and again.

Winner of five gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the Olympics, swimmer Gary Hall Jr. has been seen hitting it long at the Miami Beach Golf Course. Emmitt Smith the three-time Super Bowl champion and the NFL’s all-time leading rusher - and, don’t forget, winner of “Dancing with the Stars,” is an avid golfer who’s determined to lower his handicap. For NASCAR fans, Carl Edwards is also a golfer, Poker players beware you may not want to bet against the single-digit handicapper, Phil Gordon. Surfers Kelly Slater, one of the best surfers of our generation, is intelligent and handsome and a very nice guy. Slater learned to play golf when his financial advisor suggested he give it a try. Ever since then, he says “I’m hooked.” Cool sports super studs who golf include Wayne Gretzky, Boris Becker, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Jordan and John McEnroe.

There are numerous international celebrities who golf, including Miguel Luis, Bryan Lara, Edoardo Dalle Crode, Jorge Campos and Hugh Grant. There’s also a list of fabulous golfing women, including Catherine Zeta Jones, Sharon Stone and Nicole Kidman.

Leon Levin Skorts

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Women began to play golf in large numbers in the 1960’s which led to the development the famous Leon Levin “Q” skirt or “skort” which offered the freedom of the shorts and the soft lines of a skirt. It became an immediate favorite on the Ladies Professional Golf Tour.

Take a look at some of these skorts.

Lady Golf is now carrying this chic sports coat. It can be worn in everyday life as well as on the golf course. It is Chic, functional and very comfortable. Made with a soft, quiet and light-weight 100% Polyester wind resistant shell, they feature a concealed zip front with a high two-inch mock style collar, two front concealed pockets with zip closures, one additional mini zip pocket at the left side measuring approximately 5 inches tall X 1-1/2 inches deep, multi panel construction at the front and back of the jacket which provided a slimming princess style look, 3-1/2 inch fabric tabs at the sleeve ends with two snap positions for adjustment, an additional interior pocket with zip closure at the interior left and a contour cut bottom with contoured multi stitch detailing.

Golf Apparels

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The Golf Apparels or shirts are widely made of fine fabrics that absorb sweat easily to keep the golfer comfortable at the Golf Course and female Golfers add fashions to the course. Nowadays, its not enough that shirt has to be of decent shade or pattern but it has to be special in terms of absorbing and evaporating the sweat, guarding you from the UV rays or killing bacteria. The people expect something more like when the shirt is put on for sports and the dynamic lifestyle Golf Apparel is symbolizes the demand of style and simultaneously fulfilling the fabulous way of launching the urban fashion trends on the Golf Course.

The major fashions in the Golf Apparels during the last two years have been revolving around the technical fabrics. Main area taken care of is moisture-wicking and stretch fabrics intended to offer the wearer a superior performance level in addition to the comfort while active, as a matter of fact, the Golf Apparels are the most adaptable garments available in the markets nowadays. In general the golfers want their garments satisfying their needs like small pockets that could hold the tees or the extra balls and provide IN protection. The mercerized fabrics are the most chosen fabrics for Golf Apparels.

Sensor Cool is one such technical fabric which is used in the Ping Collection golf line offered by Miami-based Perry Ellis International. The fabric pores expand promoting great breath ability as the body gets heated and the pores shrink to hold the heat when the body cools down. Dunbrooke Apparel Corporation is another renowned Golf Apparels producer who too reveals the increasing requirements of performance factors in the Golf Apparels.

Various features like moisture management, dimension or stretching, sweat zone ventilation, evaporation and airflow, lightweight compression for motion range and much more was introduced by Nike Golf for the use of technical fabrics in golf trends. Dri-Fit technology was initiated and developed by Nike Inc, which is the lightweight, lesser restrictive performance fabric that also later added IN protection for preventing the sunburn through the fabric. The company also modified the original Dri-Fit by adding the new features of stretching capabilities which facilitated the superior range of motions.

Though mercerized cotton is the hot product it proves very hot if worn in specific weather conditions. Apparels made of mercerized fabrics are good for office wear but not fit or perfect as the polo or Golf Apparels since they do not breathe easily. The retailers in the present competitive retail markets strives to fulfill the customers requirements like probable weather conditions for promoting their sales graphs.

The increasing demand of camp shirts is evaluated as the exceptional substitute. However, the advanced style is of polo shirts produced from hi-tech polyester blended fabrics specifically designed to keep the body cool and giving the generous and comfortable fittings.

On the whole, the Golf Shirts are currently crossing the gender boundaries heading further for the ladies apparels too. The significance of suitable trends for the fairer sex could hardly be evaded. The ladies of course do not like wearing apparels that look like the undersized mans garments, instead they prefer the styles to be feminine and fittings must be accurate. The sports on an average draw around 2 million new players every year in the US Novice Golfers who are rather younger almost 60% of them are between 18 and 39 years of age of which women contribute more hitting the links for the first time or say more than 38% new golfers are the women according to the statements released by the National Golf Foundation. The increasing segments of women consider the golf as the essential business skill, the play that provides the influential networking and business development tool. Its not that the apparel producers are more concentrating on the women garments, they are potential segments of the gob market hence the latest trends of clothing are just being designed for them.

The importance of golf clothing

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Golfers are always trying to improve their golf game. They pay for golf lessons, videotapes, books; the list goes on and on. What they often miss is one of the most over looked ways to improve your golf game. The cloths you wear when you play golf. That’s right, your golf game can acutely improve with the proper choices in clothes.

The sun overhead also has an effect on a person’s golf game. Choosing the proper hat will be very important. You need to find a hat that is comfortable. When you look good, you’ll feel good and you’ll play better. Try on several and look in the mirror. Pick out one that you will enjoy and feel comfortable with. Not only will a good hat keep the sun from shining in your eyes when you are going for that all important shot, it will also protect you from the harmful rays of the sun so you can live to play many more rounds of golf.

There are 2 types of golf shoes on the market. There are shoes that do not have any spikes, this type of shoe is also known as “soft spikes” and there are shoes with metal spikes. You will need to check with the course you are playing at as to what are their rules regarding shoes. Steel spikes have a tendency to rip up the greens. That is why many courses don’t allow them. You will want to make sure that your shoes fit well. You will be doing a lot of walking (up to 4 miles). Two very well known manufacturers of golf shoes are Foot-Joy and Dexter. You really can’t go wrong with either of those brands.

A lot of courses have a dress code. Many golf courses don’t allow jeans and some require collared shirts. Wear what you feel comfortable in. You will be out there for two and a half to five hours. You will be bending and twisting your body so make sure your golf clothing is not too constricting. Along those same lines you will not want your golf clothes to be too loose either. You may snag your club on your shirt sleeve.

You will want to make sure you are prepared for any type of weather. As I said you will be out there a long time and the weather can change very fast. Bring a pullover or a sweater with you. Also make sure you bring some rain gear along with you. Although is not considered clothing you will also want to bring along an umbrella. This will make sure you stay dry out on the course.

The most important thing is to be comfortable with what you are wearing. You clothing will have both a physical and psychological effect. Just feeling good about yourself will help improve your golf game so much. So take your golf clothing purchases seriously. Remember: be comfortable, stay warm, keep dry and most of all, have fun.

An easy buying guide for sunglasses

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Let’s be honest. Guys just want to look good in their sunglasses. After all, sunglasses are like anything else you have, whether it’s your favorite baseball cap, your lucky tie, or your latest golf shirt. You buy them because they make you feel comfortable, and they make you feel good.

On the other hand, if you buy the wrong tie, hat, or sunglasses, you won’t feel good. You’ll feel uncomfortable, and you’ll end up not wearing that expensive item you just had to have. Or even worse, you may love you new pair of shades, but a month later you decide you look terrible!

Make sure you buy a pair of sunglasses that makes you feel like a movie star, each and every time you wear them. The key is to know what shape and size match your face. That is the true test of your sunglasses, and it’s not even rocket science. When you buy a pair of slacks, you have to make sure they fit your legs. So it stands to reason that when you go to buy a pair of sunglasses, you want a beautiful fit for your face.

The first thing to look at when picking out a great pair of sunglasses is size. Guys with smaller faces need to wear smaller sized sunglasses, while a man with a larger face needs to sport larger sunglasses. However, trends typically transcend everyday fashion rules for a moment in time. So, if you want to follow the current oversized fashion obsession, this is your chance to shine in a large pair of wrap-around shield sunglasses.

The second rule of matching your sunglasses to your face is to know what your face’s best feature is, and make sure your sunglasses accent that. Want your sunglasses to “blend” in? Find a thin pair of shades in a neutral color that let your assets shine through. Or use your sunglasses to hide a feature you may not feel is your best. For example, a brow bar on sunglasses may draw attention away from a balding head, while big sunglasses with high temples may be better for gentlemen with long noses.

The third, and perhaps most difficult, key to buying the right pair of sunglasses is to get the right shape of sunglasses. Instead of matching your shades to the shape of your face, you want to buy sunglasses that are as different from the shape of your face as possible.

For instance, if you have a square face, you will look best in frames that are round or oval to reduce your angles and provide some definition. On the other hand, a round face will look best in wide sunglasses with rectangular or square lenses. Oval faces can typically sport any shape of sunglasses and can easily try out the newest trends. Oblong faces should steer clear of frames that extend beyond the widest part of the face.

No matter what shape or size you are, there is a perfect pair of sunglasses. waiting for you. All it takes is a little knowledge and a little patience to look great in a stylish pair of shades.

Are umbrellas becoming the latest “must have” fashion accessory?

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

The humble umbrella is making a comeback as the latest “must have” fashion accessory.

The word umbrella has come to be used to mean many things. From the simple rain umbrella to walking umbrella to garden umbrella to golf umbrella to wedding umbrella to umbrella charities and organisations; the list goes on and on. Anyone with even an o’level in French knows that the word umbrella obviously originally mest stem from “ombre”, meaning shade or shadow. So its strange that something which was originally meant to protect from the sun has become known as something to protect you from the complete opposite i.e. the rain.

Actually the French have still got it right - parapluie means against the rain and parasol means against the sun. For that matter the Germans have also kept the distinction. Regenschirm and Sonnenschirm. The Italians, though, like the English speaking nations have fallen for the same trap with Ombrelli.

Actually,. Umbrellas have come a pretty long way. They’re mostly made in China and Taiwan these days. People claim still to make superior quality umbrellas in some Western European countries like Great Britain, Italy and France but the truth is the quality of umbrellas made in China is generally just as good. These Western European countries like to perpetuate an image and reputation of traditional skills and superior quality, but the truth is they are simply attempting to justify the higher labour costs and are trying to maintain higher prices in order to cling on to their margins. You would be surprised. Many so called traditional British umbrellas or stylish hand made Italian umbrellas are in reality made in China or at best simply packaged over here to get round the trades description acts. I say, hell, what’s wrong with Chinese umbrellas? If you read your history of umbrellas, you’ll learn that, that’s where they first originated anyway.

There are some amazing recent developments and innovations in the world of umbrellas. My favourites include the Witch umbrella, the Kiss umbrella, the Lurve umbrella and the Squarella from www.UmbrellaHeaven.com which is a division of Rob McAlister Ltd from Leighton Buzzard in the United Kingdom.

The Witch umbrella, so called because of its slight resemblance to a witch’s hat is rapidly becoming an iconic and very popular fashion statement for fashion connoisseurs throughout the world. It has a very distinctive shape that really sets you apart from the ubiquitous and frankly boring traditional, conventional shaped umbrellas that you see just about everywhere. The Witch umbrella really stands out from the crowd. I say if you’re going to buy an umbrella, don’t buy any old umbrella - buy a special umbrella.

The Kiss umbrella is a more subtle version of the Witch umbrella. This is a particularly elegant umbrella. Its attractive feminine lines make it particularly appealing to the younger female generation.

The Squarella, as the name suggests is a really cool, square-shaped umbrella.

The Witch, the Kiss and the Squarella are all great fun umbrellas that really put a smile on your face. Moreover, they all benefit from the worldwide- patented Double Dome wind-resilience technology. You see, with these innovative umbrellas, its actually what’s on the inside that counts. They each have not one but two sets of spokes. Think about it. Twice the number of contact points with each of the umbrella ribs must mean twice the strength, right? Certainly, when I tested them in a near hurricane, I found these to be very robust umbrellas indeed. Eventually, they will blow inside out. Actually, if you think about it, they need to - for safety reasons. But what I have found with these new high tech umbrellas, is that, when this eventually happens, unlike traditional umbrellas, they do not break! Yes, I’ll say that again - they do not break. I think this just could be the world’s strongest umbrella, the world’s first unbreakable umbrella. This is because of the unique design. Each of the twin spokes has a tiny hinge, which means that these amazing umbrellas actually “give” in high winds. They can be recovered time and time again in the event of wind inversion. How cool is that? This is a real umbrella for life - in both senses! An umbrella for living and an umbrella that should last you a lifetime.

Umbrellas that combine fashion with the latest wind-resilience technology - surely this has got to be the way forward?
